Rabia helping a poor family in Kolkata, India: August 4, 2013:

Dear Uncle Marc,

Here is a attached file with photo and details.

The Lady from Baganaya para has 6 children, First time when i meet this lady this is the photo that i took. So i meet her again on wednesday and took all the details of her. First time she told her husband died actually he ran away since 6 month and she is very angry on him, so she thinks he died and living the life.

I have been to her house all the kids needs help and i was thinking to put them in hostels but i really don't know they will take or not. Hope Foundation is full and they take right from the street, some other ngos i know they also take but it has to be orphan, no mother and no father. Now there are many rules to put them in the hostels Theirry's home i dont' have any contact.

I asked this lady for any business that she would like to do she said she wants to sell Sarees. Like say she will buy 2 dozens of sarees, if each cost 200 rupees then it will be 24*200 = 4800.

For now These children can go to some schools near the station.

If you need more information let me know.

Thanking You

Rabia

They stay in a rented house where they have to pay 400 rupees per month, the mother works for cleaning the peoples house and earn some to pay the rent.

About the food that is also managed somehow but some time they don’t get much.

The elder son has been asked by the mother to go and help one tailor and learn. He is a kid don’t like still he has to because his mother asked. When he learns then he will be a Hastagar(a person who brings the cut pieces of cloth from the factory and stitch full to make a shirt) it will take him years to learn and be a hastagar.

Rest of the children are just roam around in the community only the 1 year child Alfia is always with her mother as she is too young to be left anywhere.

No School, no proper food, no one to take care properly as the mother has no time to take care.

Uttara helping senior and children in Belegachi, West Bengal, India on a torrid hot day April 13th

 Dear Marc,

Greetings to you from sunbaked and almost half cooked Baruipur!!! It's so very uncomfortably hot here!!!!
How are you doing and hope everything is ok your end.

Marc, I left for Belegachi at 7.15am on 13th April to beat the unbearable heat and arrived at the distribution venue at around 8.30am. The 16 senior citizens selected, had already arrived and were patiently waiting for me while the mothers with their small kids were having a tough time managing them as they ran here and there squealing and shouting while some were in their mother's arms while others clutched their sarees and tugged behind.

As soon as they saw me alight from the auto, the chatter stopped for a few seconds but again restarted with continued vigour.
After our brief exchange of greetings, I decided to immediately handover the packets of grocery to the waiting senior beneficiaries, as standing outdoors was posing great hardship due to the immense heat.

The young mothers who had been selected from very needy households were handed a plastic packet in which a saree was packed on account of Bengali New Year, while 16 small kids accompanying them, were handed a packet of biscuit and a cake each.

Expenses Incurred:-
1. 16 Grocery Packets for 16 Senior Citizens @ ₹398 per pkt - ₹6, 368 - $77.56 USD
2. 14 Mothers were given a cotton saree each @ ₹230 per saree -
₹3, 220 - $39.22 USD
3. 16 kids @ ₹ 25for 1 pkt biscuit & 1 pkt cake- ₹400 - 4.87
4. Transport & Freight - ₹800 - $9.74 USD

Total - ₹ 10, 788 - $131.39 USD

In case of any clarification or doubt, please let me know.

Thanks and warm regards,

Uttara
