Uttara Report on 100 Friends Activities in Dadpur Village in West Bengal India October 1, 2021

 Dear Marc,

How are you?
Sending you Works Executed for September in the month of October and shall be  sending you October Works Report in a week or so and hope you don't mind.

Visit to Dadpur Village on 01.10.2021....

According to Census 2011 information the location code or village code of Dadpur village is 333952. Dadpur is located in Baruipur Tehsil of South Twenty Four Parganas district in West Bengal, India. The total geographical area of village is 204.55 hectares. Dadpur has a total population of 3,688 peoples. There are about 785 houses in Dadpur village. In Dadpur village population of children with age 0-6 is 491 which makes up 13.31 % of total population of village.

Dadpur village has lower literacy rate compared to West Bengal. The dark side is that illiteracy rate of Dadpur village is 36%. Here 1344 out of total 3688 persons are illiterate. The number of occupied person of Dadpur village is 1592 however 2096 are non-working. And out of 1592 employed person 292 peoples are entirely dependent on cultivation.

I set off for Dadpur village on 01.10.2021 with an Auto laden with grocery packets comprising each of 5 kgs Rice, 5 kgs Potatoes, 3 kgs Onion, 500 gms puffed rice, 300 gms flattened rice and 150 gms jaggery for 19 families. Most houses where grocery packets were given were handed by me but some places were so water logged and slippery due to stagnant water that I asked locals to help give the food items which I had brought for the poor villagers who were living a life of complete misery with no money to buy food nor able to gather wild greens to eat their boiled rice with as fields had been absolutely water logged for days.

I bought 1.5 dozen (18pcs) biscuit packets, pens, erasers, pencils and long exercise copies for small school going children for them to practice at home and some school text books were provided to a boy studying in Class VI in an English Medium School whose online exams were knocking at the doors.

Seeing the thin, half starved people almost begging for the food packets for having not received while the others who received had tears in their eyes as it would mean a little food for them for a few days and it made me feel so wretched and helpless to see so much misery and poverty all around.

I thank "100 Friends Project" and you Marc from the core of my heart, for making it possible for me to be able to reach out to the poorest of the poor and bring a little joy and relief for a few days at least.
