This is Mr. Muhammed Moarek age 70 currently homeless in Essaouira, Morocco. He used to shelter in a garage from where he has been kicked out 2 days ago with no access to toilet and running water. He is very weak and did not shower for a good number of days. 100 friends has bought him 2 warm pants,1 jacket,1 pair of socks, 1 hat and one pair of slippers for $32.50.
We gave him $30 to buy food for the next few days while we are talking to the local councilor to find a long term solution for a shelter.
We have then contacted ’El Hanchane Organisation which operates a home for homeless people 27 miles away from the town of Essaouira. The home director came to meet Mr Moarek to assess his situation and gave us the positive news that he could take him to the home after undergoing a general check up at the local hospital.
100 Friends has spent an additional 100 dollars to cover ambulance cost and hospital check up. Mr Moarek is now in a safe place in the home with another 65 men and women.
